Overview

COIL as a new learning paradigm

COIL Is an accessible form of online learning that bridges gaps between cultures and delivers shared experiences for students and faculty alike. COIL programming includes collaborative tasks that demand contributions from diverse people and backgrounds. Faculty members from partnering nations work together to develop syllabi and coursework that leverages the innate cultural knowledge of their students for benefit of their program peers with different backgrounds.

The COIL framework can be applied in both fully online and blended programs. In particular, Gallaudet students deliver rich sources of perspective to the global deaf network, and in return, learn from deaf peers around the world. Consider COIL an online extension of our Study Abroad program.
